Superintendent's Message

The Harlan Community Primary School has approximately 375 students; preschool through second grade.  Our class size is typically 20 students per classroom.   Our inclusive preschool program serves three and four year old students. This preschool program integrates children with special needs with typical peers.

Our focus at the Primary building is literacy, integration of curriculum, and life-long learning.  The Common Core provides the framework for our students learning process.  We focus on student-centered classrooms and inquiry based learning, where students have a voice and choice in their learning.  We feel it is important to focus on citizenship during the school day; as it prepares students to be lifelong learners.  We believe that learning should be an enjoyable experience for students, parents and teachers.

We are proud to have a talented and gifted program, Title I reading, art, music, physical education, library, technology, and Character Counts. Since the curriculum is dynamic and continually emerging we revise and evaluate to ensure learning is relevant, rigorous, engaging, and fun.

The Primary building is an exciting place to pursue lifelong learning while becoming a productive citizen.  Come visit us at the Primary Building!!!

Yours in Education,
